[Feature + BTS] Tendencias tribales @ EgoModa.com
Our Creative Director, Naomy Quiñones, got the crazy idea to shoot our amazing model and friend Ariana from Element Model Agency in a funky session inspired by Dutch painter, Piet Mondrian. She gave Beauty + Fashion Director Aisha Naomi a huge challenge to work with futuristic jewelry by amazing designer Fabian de la Fuentes. She loves a dare!
Piet Mondrian is part on an artistic movement called De Stijl (The Style), lesser known as Neo-Plasticism. They searched for perfect harmony in the work of art, reducing art to its basics: colour and form. This is the reason their work only uses the three primary colours (red, blue and yellow); black and white (usually in the background colour). They regarded this as the full realization of beauty in the work of art.
Using the face as a white canvas, we wanted to explore if De Stijl's concepts could be translated into make-up and design, adorning the human body.
To aid us in this voyage, we thought of the designer Fabian de las Fuentes, whose severe geometrical shapes in jewelry is almost a signature in his designs. Fabian has an academic base for his work; studying both in the prestigious Escuela Central de Artes Visuales (CAV) and Escuela de Artes Plásticas (EAP). His jewelry has a very cutting edge contemporary aesthetic. He has presented in Puerto Rico High Fashion Week alongside Jaer Cabán, and in independent shows both as a solo artist and with Harry Robles. He is currently an educator, working in ESPACIO>A as an educator in fashion design.
We love working with art concepts and fashion; as editorials can also be a medium for artistic expression. Let us know what you think!
